The Diatomite used in our bath mats, sometimes known as diatomaceous earth, is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock that is composed mainly of the fossilised remains of diatoms, a type of single-celled algae. Diatoms have a unique silica-based cell wall called a frustule, which is what makes diatomite such a distinctive material. The frustules of diatoms accumulate over long periods in aquatic environments, forming deposits that can be processed for various applications.

Diatomite has a high silica content, ranging from 80% to 90%. This makes it a valuable material for a wide range of applications. Diatomite is known for its excellent absorbent properties due to its highly porous structure. It has a large surface area, allowing it to absorb liquids and gases effectively. As a result, diatomite is commonly used as a filtering and purifying agent in water and beverage treatment, swimming pool filtration, and various industrial processes.

Diatomite is often used as an abrasive in products like toothpaste, metal polishes, and facial scrubs, where its fine particles help to remove unwanted materials. Additionally, diatomite has insulating properties, making it suitable for thermal insulation in products such as fire-resistant bricks and refractory materials.

In agriculture, diatomite is used as a soil amendment and a natural pesticide. When added to soil, it improves its drainage and water retention capabilities, promotes root development, and enhances nutrient availability. It is also an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic pesticides, as it can effectively control pests like mites, fleas, and ticks.

    What our customers say...

"Mines been great, nice to step out of the shower onto dry land instead of a soggy material mat."

    Liam, London

"I like cool, new stuff but also want to buy ethically so this is perfect, everyone should have a bath mat they will never have to replace and can wipe clean, such a simple way to cut your carbon footprint and save a few quid."

    Lewis, Stockport

"I am a complete convert who will never go back to fabric mats! Less water everywhere after my shower and stay in position much better than my old mat that I sometimes slipped on."

    Melissa, Wakefield

"Really impressed! It dries really quickly leaving no marks. It looks fantastic and saves me looking at a damp mat wondering when I last washed it!"
